It was a late April afternoon when our heroes found themselves trapped by a mad man. Forced to suffer his whims and long winded bouts of rambling fangirling, I the RetrOtaku Held a Character Building session with Magic Marc, Candy and Dan-Ale for Dresden files the rpg. Now a responsible journalist would be obligated to point out the near completely broken rules and lack of a sensible combat system that I will have to supplement and house rules for the game.  However the bottom line is I’m a fan of the Dresden series and while I do recognize how fouled the RPG is. Yet the spirit of the Dresdenverse is so well represented and the book is filled with lots of great call backs to series tropes and inside jokes not to mention that I couldn’t wait to start creating my own stories with in the world alongside my friends… I mean victims muahahaha –he-he-ha.  So it was that our heroes crafted their player characters! Fet-la a vampire infected high priestess gifted with the tears of Cassandra.  Thomas Cain Knight of the cross and taxed with the burden of hunting down his wifeand friends cursed by the fallen angel Lasciel making them Loup-garou, and lastly Ferris Wheeler A student at Marshall College under Professor Jones hunted by The Crypto-Historian Society.

Retro Rants: Dicey Diversions

Hello dear reader so as you saw last post I have I a new series called Dicey Diversions that will come out as whenever it can maybe twice a month. It honestly depends on my ability to come up with the initial campaign concept, I.e. Dungeons and DEADITES the path finder game I’m running of an arch lich that has turn to a god that he didn’t truly understand in his quest for vengeance and is paying the price and dragging the rest of the world down with him. I also intended to write a this post to give you guys a heads up on potential fun that you can join in or at least influence and give some special thanks.

Well let’s get that last bit out of the way, thank you Chelly. You see reader I spent a comically large amount of time that I will not reveal trying to come up with a good name for these posts and it was Chelly that picked out a winner in only a few minutes so thanks. I would also like to thank my friends for agreeing to meet up and do this as I bring them silly and somewhat aggravating situation after another.  And you the fans, oh and Johannah as you guys have seen pop up on this site before. When I started writing the show notes up I hit on the idea that instead of it being standard notes or an ongoing narrative about the characters to instead make a story about table top rpgs that is completely over the top and hammy

Secondly you guys can look forward to DRESDEN FILES THE RPG campaign Hollyweird I haven’t really settled on to much yet but there will be a Dicey Diversions post coming up. But fans just because your not here don’t think you can’t join in the fun! Dicey Diversions

At the designated hour they shall gather and decide the fate of nonexistent people and hypothetical world.  Partaking of the scared brew and consuming food that lacks sustenance or nutritional value for the sack of your entrainment! When last they did meat Pathfinder was the challenge set before them. Three answered DanAle Arch magus of gaming Lord of the MassEffects, the illusive QuestionMarc so mysterious he is only as Magic Marc either way really and one kidnapped young lady held at gun point but a robot with an itchy trigger finger Candy.

Having agreed to protect a caravan that was traveling form the eastern kingdom of Ra’sch to the westerner port town of ScrawlShire a band of adventures set forth with the promise of 40 gold with the addition of a bounse for each enemy slayen. Sadly misfortune struck the adventurers and no one assaulted the caravan. However once they arrived at SkwarlShire the group discovered, DeadOrcs, Gobmbies and a Torllinch all reanimated with the power of a crazed god. The battle was ferocious and but our so called heroes were victorious on that day. Paid for their troubles and gifted with 3 pairs of Seven League Boots Granting a +7 to all acrobatics and the wearer is granted a movement speed of 35 feet for an hour twice a day. Such gifts will be needed to help find the missing women and children of SkrawlShire.

Hello and I guess I’m back after another long drought. I
would apologies but after a while it just lack any meaning and maybe this is
just the way I work with long and depressing waves of unproductive self
inflicted depression but it seem that now I’m on an upswing so brace yourself
for the awesome!

it seems that I’m 24 and that spring is creeping back. So what does this mean…
nothing really its just an one of those things that we think is important but
really isn’t well other thing some minor legalities 24 is a lot like 23 and I’m
sure 25 will also be like 24 but there is something to be said for experience.
I would hate to admit this but in my old age I find myself maturing into a playful
eccentricity and frustration at the world around me but unlike before thanks to
experience I now know how best to deal with that! And its not lots of liquor
and slutty girls. I know shocker don’t get me wrong there will always be a
place in my heart for scotch and bimbos but maybe boobs aren’t then end of all

holy fuck kate upton ok maybe they are but the point is I’m back and
while I will make myself bash out something on a regular basis I think I’m
starting to mellow out… well by my standards of mellow no longer ruled by my
many and varied compulsions and passions. Sadly literature is still my one true
love and she is a such a tease.

Well dear readers I know I know I dropped the ball yet again. I make no excuse beyond my own lack of discipline and time management skills. But what I write to you to day is about well some very disturbing news. I know that early on I said this blog would not be a forum for political ramblings but seeing as I am just a few months shy of citizenship why the hell are you blasted Americans so passive about the slow yet ever more overt transformation into a police state! Retro Rant's The Thing

Hello Dear Readers now I for those of you that listen to Nerdsense know my stance on movie remakes. I said it then and ill say it now some time a movie for any number of reasons will have a promising concept but turns out to be a massive flop and often the wasted potential is good enough to warrant a second chance in the form of a remake. Case in Point The Thing! Yes The Thing is the poster child for movie remakes taking a stupid and ridiculous creature feature and becoming one of the best horror movies out there and a case study in great writing. Which is why I don't get why anyone would want to do a third remake… what’s that you didn’t know The Thing is a remake, well no worries friends cause the thing from outer space is you stock 50s b sci-fi flick and like most of those received a remake in the 80’s… wait 19 50’s movies got remade in the 80s… and now they are getting remakes in 2010… HOLY TAP DANCING CHRIST! Doc’ Brown and Marty are behind all the remakes! That’s brilliant using the delorean too travel back and forth through time picking out movies that suck form the 1950s buying the right in 1980 and manufacturing some of the best and most loved films then traveling to the future setting up a second set of cash in remakes and then re-releasing the first set of remakes on DVD/ Blue Ray for a massive profit… that so evil and insane why didn't I think of it first!

New York City Invasion plot Part 1

Hello loyal readers This is the tale of my invasion of NewYorkComicCon! The day started off promising with an early morning wake up call I ignored and slept in till about 10:30 finally tumbling out of bed into a nice hot shower I slipped into something a little more SCIENCY and headed out to take care of some minor last minute errands. The trip was a rather short one and relatively unremarkable and I have to admit only in Manhattan can guy stroll at his leisure decked in mad scientist sheik with out attracting even a minor glance. The con its self was another matter all together with strange mannerism that pass for charm I quickly ensnared several unsuspecting nerds bringing them into the fold of loyal Nerdsense aficionados! I was even able establish contacts with the Umbrella Corporation then I met the First to challenge my SCIENCE! Casey Jones that masked vigilante do-gooder and all around ass kicker thought he could stop the likes of me… OK so he was right and I got owned but I remained on detoured form my goal! FYI don't hit on April O'Neil. It was not a retreat but and advance to the rear, I made my way to an Allie JK Woodward and acquired some trophies, the first of which is my Utility sash! Along side a few movies, some comic books the true pleasure is tracking down print form my favorite artists. The Feather in my hat being a print by Jenny Frison of Spike! WINNING! I also made the acquaintance of Oancitizen along side Nash and JesuOtaku. Then I quickly found myself under siege by that nuisance Altair… bloody assassin… sadly this first day was rather long and trying and after the third um… Advance to the rear I thought it best to return to the evil lair. Having met some a few subjects of my exuberant expression of appreciations gathered some minor fans. I’m calling it a win.

DCU 52

           The New 52 form dc has officially completed its cycle of number ones and we can now look forward to a new world and some really great and hopefully freaking wonderful adventures! But this is not new if I wanted to make news I would have been doing a weekly review of each title the only trouble is I (A)didn’t really care about most of the 52 titles coming out and (2) most of the new 52 where part ones… this angered me to know ends as a number one should in my mind at least be a stand along issue that any one can pick up and learn what they need to know about the title character and the world they live in. We will get into that in a bit but the finale reason I didn't do the running review of each issue was well I didn't feel like it… I know I’m a terrible lazy lazy man but was ass deep in Deus EX yes there will be a first impressions of it I'm sorry I got sucked into it, but thanks to a dear friend I am back at my keyboard doing my whole writer thing.

 

Point being that the new 52 is both something Ive looked forward to with the sort of glee reserved for school girls moments after getting there first kiss form the boy they like and the kind of dread known only by the large breasted blond hiding while the masked killer saunters closer only to move right past her and then as she lets out a trembling sigh of relief the killer smashes in through the wall! The Anticipation alone would drive lesser men crazy, it helped that I was already quite mad.

(the I have read all of the new 52 the red are the unforgivably bad and the green are my favorites so far)

 

 

The Good! Well thankfully we have some great new titles and interesting reintroduction to classic characters, like Aquaman or Animalman, Nightwing was suprising to say the least, Batwoman finally got her big day and we now have Frankenstein and swamp thing not to mention my favorite bad ass Jonah Hex!Now Granted that now all of the New 52 kicks ass. The Bad! Blue Beetle is at the top of the list here I mean there are other bad titles but dear god this one was just soul crushingly disappointing… some people wnat to put Catwoman on this list too but they can do what is did to Batman and fuck off HAHA SPOILER FTWS! At the moment all I can say that there are some promising new series and well some rather pointless ones I mean really I vampire…yeah weak. Now dear readers you may look forward to more in depth reviews of individual series as I get complete story arcs but as of right now the best has to be Animalman and All star Western so you can expect those to be first.

THE RETURN OF THE BLOG THINGY!

Hello and welcome back my dear readers my not so daily blog… I know, I know tisk, tisk for shame I fail at life. Blah blah fucking blah today I would like to welcome you to a little something I’m calling “IT CAME FORM THE INTERNET!” This is a series of post focused on things that I buy on he internet. This particular post is on the super awesome Yeti Blue Microphone!

Now is the kinda thing one would normally do in video format but I’m kinda lazy. So first things I purchased the Yeti off Amazon.com for $96.63 and it arrived two days later so shipping was quick, fast and in a hurry. When it comes to opening just about anything really I have to always Turn to my handy Sonic Screwdriver.

 Now I think its about time I explain as to why this the Yeti is so freaking awesome. Sure the sound quality is amazing and it has the kind of sensitivity that most people have to take special training for at a so call retreat but the yeti is a multi pattern mic meaning that one as the ability select the type of mic you want to use! Yes thats right With four settings the yeti can be a functional boom mic for cutting that demo, a shotgun mic for an interview, or a basic condenser mic for laying down those sweet smooth vocals. The yeti isn't just wonderful its freaking wonderful and for under 100 bucks well worth it I would also recommend the snowflake and snow ball to any one thinking of getting a new recording mic for your music, vlog, or Podcast!
